Many traditional aspects of the Black Hills went into the design of this buffalo including the Native American culture, mountains, horses and buffalo, all tied together with a large heartbeat traveling across the buffalo form. A group of Custer High School seniors collectively painted this piece.
This buffalo is a compilation work by several Custer High School art students. Seventy-three designs were submitted by Art 1, Art 2, and Advanced Art students. Each design was displayed in the classroom for two weeks. The top five design winners were: Tyler Bilbruck, Christian Kirsch, Heidi Cuny, Daniel Davis, and Samantha Janson.
The painters wove a combination of the top designs together to create this year’s Custer High School Table Top Buffalo. The painting was done by Senior Art students - Tyler Bilbruck, Miriam Burden, Shay Koch, Daniel Davis, Caitlin Nielson, Billy Colvin, and Lindsay Uhrich.
This is the third year the CHS Art Department has taken on this challenge and a huge thank you goes to art teacher Susan Hulinsky for her leadership and dedication to making this project come to life. Half of the auction proceeds from the sale of this buffalo will go back to the CHS Art Department. The Custer Stampede Buffalo Art Auction committee asks bidders to take this into consideration as an opportunity to further support art in the schools.
