“Dance Back the Buffalo"
Freeform - Hand Painted Native American Drum

freitag

Peg Freitag
Custer, SD
buffeathers@yahoo.com

The buffalo dancer on the 16” Lakota style hand drum celebrates the gift of the buffalo with gratitude and honor.  The buffalo included in the scene feels the beat, the excitement…rhythms of the heart transfer to the beat of the drum.  Its vibrations help tune into the natural frequency of the earth, connecting to all that is.

Although a drum is meant to be played, this one is designed primarily for artistic expression.
Drum maker:  Suzie Two Socks, Wood River, IL

Peg’s attraction to and respect for animals and nature direct her creative visions.  She is a self-taught artist and has sketched or painted in one medium or another since childhood.

Born and raised in central Minnesota, Peg and her family moved to northwest Nebraska, managing a ranch with buffalo.  For over 20 years, the Freitag’s bred, raised and promoted the rare and historic Spanish-Barb horse.  Peg remains active on the Board of Directors and is Senior Inspector for the Spanish-Barb Breeders Association.

Peg retired from full time employment and relocated to Custer in 2006. This is her third year participating in the Custer Stampede Buffalo Art Auction.
