Housed in a double matted, hardwood frame, this project brings the horse and buffalo together. Horses and buffalo are among the most sacred in the animal nations. Their spirits are connected. Accents to the feather include Peg’s handmade, beaded medicine bag, natural buffalo wool, and genuine horsehair ties
Peg’s interest in attraction to and respect for animals, nature and natural elements direct her creative visions. She is a self-taught artist and has sketched or painted in one medium or another since childhood.
Born and raised in central Minnesota, Peg and her family moved to northwest Nebraska in 1980 to manage a ranch that included a small herd of buffalo from 1994-1999. For over 20 years, the Freitag’s bred, raised and promoted the rare and historic Spanish-Barb horse. Peg remains active on the Board of Directors and is Senior Inspector for the Spanish-Barb Breeders Association.
Her painted feathers, of which she is particularly fond of creating, have been accepted in several juried art shows and have gone to homes throughout the United States, England, and Germany.
Peg retired from full time employment and relocated to Custer in 2006. This is her third year participating in the Custer Stampede Buffalo Art Auction.
